The Catholic Church in the USA - its upper hierarchy - long ago made its peace with idolatrous " patriotism " and ugly militarism ( in the manner of Cardinal Spelman ) In Latin America the Church is not so out of touch with the working class and the long suffering poor. And yet the mainstream news media in the United States is relentless in its over-vilification of the Catholic Church, its crude Catholic bashing , branding it a force for HATE in the world. Oddly enough I suspect our ruling class plutocracy is NOT influenced at all by Catholic social philosophy ( recall Pope Francis damning Wall St. greed ) or Christianity in general . They actually embrace the snobby New Atheism - which is contemptuous even of Orthodox Jews ( more and more cynical and disillusioned with Zionism ). The American ruling class will only USE religion. They wink at it ONLY when it stupefies the masses, not when it tries to make LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR a reality.
