As a democratic Socialist myself I can readily understand Bernie Sanders
position on reparations for black slavery. Karl Marx also explained wage
slavery. Working class people have been the wage slaves of the
capitalist exploiting class in America since the early days of the
Industrial Revolution. This exploitation built the country as much as
black slavery built the Confederacy. Justice cannot be done for evil of
this magnitude by bourgeois legal settlements . It is absurd for a
working class person to " capitalize " on the misery of his long dead
ancestors. What would he or she do with the money ? Invest it in
capitalist real estate, junk bonds, casinos ?
What socialism will do is establish a more rational economic order- where nobody can become an exploiter or an economic parasite.
The total social " surplus value " will be used to give everybody a decent standard of living.
Most of that surplus value will be used to raise human culture to higher level. Libraries, schools, hospitals, beaches, national parks, museums, even the Space Program belong to all of us collectively.
The labor theory of value does not measure how much each individual has been " swindled " by the capitalist profit system- or by the slavery of the Old South .
An advanced socialist system should even make MONEY in all its forms obsolete.
Black people should support socialists. Malcolm X said: " Show me a capitalist and I'll show you a blood sucker " .
No socialist would be applauded at Goldman Sachs.
