Indian Republican multi-millionaire the ideal candidate for self-hating working class people ?
What is a longtime independent democratic socialist to think about this young Republican multi-millionaire who passionately believes that an economic system that works so well for the plutocratic rich is also just fine for the rest of us plebeians ? The ideal candidate for self-hating working class people ! Forget about Karl Marx . Read Ayn Rand and her classic " The Virtue of Selfishness ".
Karl Marx way back in 1848 brilliantly explained the secret of capitalist PROFIT in the exploitation of the labor power of the working class - which , of course, includes brain workers.
It would be self-destructive for organized labor in the United States to lobotomize itself on the true nature of the capitalist system.
In general , THE TWO PARTY system here invariably serves the plutocracy whether Democrats or Republicans prevail. A real delusion that the Democrats are " friends of labor " .
With so little PRIVATE PROPERTY to lose millions of working class families are beginning to smell SOCIALISM in the air. Way back in September 1963 the news reported that the Italian immigrant Carmine drowned himself off Narragansett Pier , despondent over a failed pizzeria there and failing health at the age of 63. Recall that MEDICARE did not pass until 1965 , a year of LBJ'S " Great Society ". I found Carmine 's grave site at Section 30 , number 366 . Buried with him is his wife " Lina " .

My thoughts back then on the Station Fire
My thoughts back then on the tragic Station Fire:
Being a fan of horror fiction, I was reminded of the ghastly
prom night apocalypse scene in " Carrie " , the Stephen King movie,
when I watched the on the scene news coverage of the West Warwick
nightclub holocaust. My nephew, Ricky, lives right across from the
" The Station " . After making a few anxious calls, I learned that
none of my extended family - the younger ones are most likely to
frequent seedy or classy nightclubs - were unlucky enough to be
there. To die a horrible death because you just love a decadent
heavy metal band. Likely last thoughts of a victim in the burning,
screaming , stinking darkness : visions of Hell , last agonies fading
to black nothingness or eternal peace..... Father ! Mother ! Oh God,
oh God ! .... I was living.... now I am dead !
But " Carrie " was about revenge. And every good horror
story has something to say about GOOD and EVIL.
We look for villains here in " The Station " . But even
the owner wipes bitter tears. Governor Carcieri got it right : the
fire that has taken nearly 100 lives was a TRAGEDY that should not
have happened. Our litigious society has forgotten the very meaning
of TRAGEDY. It prefers to obsess foolishly on CRIME and PUNISHMENT.
No laws or punishment will cure the human race of pure
stupidity. And numerous bad judgments culminate in an out of control
event - like an earthquake or volcano.
No moralizing judge will ever be able to put the Absurd
on trial. Forget about those ridiculous grief counselors. Just BE
THERE for people who grieve.
West Warwick is an old mill town, still haunted by
the ghosts of the New England Industrial Revolution. Now and then
a friend of mine - often in late October - visit one of our favorite
West Warwick pubs : " Ronnie's Last Chance Saloon " .
Until the fire at " The Station " the only hot topic in
blue collar West Warwick was whether or not to build a casino.
A new casino should greet its visitors with a statue
of the Greek goddess - Chance . A real bitch !

This is much ado about nothing . Once there were popular advice columnists in every major American newspaper who would warn their readers of AGE milestones in LIFE. But it is highly SEXIST just to say -with no context - when women are in their prime . And if you are not a major league baseball player or professional football player or a heavy weight boxer , how relevant is being over 40 for males ?
Other careers are more subtle on age . I recall popular science writer Isaac Asimov writing that if a scientist has not made his mark by age 35 , he probably never will. I can't say when Asimov peaked as a writer. He was just as lucid at age 70 ( he died a little later ) as he was at age 35.
But it is only a SCIENTIFIC attitude to respect the warnings of statistics. The Bible got human longevity right many centuries ago( three score and ten ) .
As a 75 year old longtime independent socialist I certainly understand the younger -more vital - generations - that are growing impatient with ossified but still powerful politicians that cling to power . in 1960 42 year old presidential candidate John F. Kennedy was a breath of fresh air. Not only was he good looking ; he even read and wrote books.
Old China had great respect for old people. I learned this in Lin Yutang's book titled " The Importance of Living ".
Sad to say there are ominous signs of growing contempt for the aged in " OUR democracy ". On the radio a while back I heard a macabre suggestion about what to do with people over age 75. Even retired Catholic cardinals and bishops ? We might need their prayers.

Soares, whose bench trial began Wednesday in Kent County Superior Court, has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.

[I am 68 years old. I was married 25 years. We divorced when he met young and lushous. I had a college degree but stayed home to rear 4 kids. He wanted it that way not so much me. Social Security pays me $750 a month due to my short and unsuccessful work history. That is not enough to survive in the USA. Will I end up on the street? Not as long as I can go back to work but after that I will end up on the street as a very old woman in a very cold state. Apparently our government does not care what happens to home makers that are abandoned due to no fault of their own.

Taking arrows in defense of freedom
It is comical, yet sad, the depths to which the progressive left and other defenders of Rhode Island's failed status quo will sink in order to avoid honest debate about serious policy issues. When their arguments fail, they resort to attacking the messenger.
Case in point: The Dec. 30 letter by Ron Ruggieri, who calls the Rhode Island Center for Freedom and Prosperity "sinister" because we dared encourage our supporters to see a movie in 2012, "Atlas Shrugged II."
Our center proudly adheres to our stated mission - to research and advocate for free-enterprise solutions that are in everyone's best interests. We debate ideas and, unlike our opponents, we do not engage in the politics of personal destruction. Mr. Ruggieri's absurd letter was not the first such mindless attack and it will not be the last. It is our center's role to take these arrows in defense of freedom.
As for "Atlas Shrugged," considered by many to be one of the great literary works of America's 20th century, it is a book every American should read so as to better appreciate the virtues of personal responsibility and the free-market system as opposed to the destructive nature of an overbearing, crony government such as we have in Rhode Island.
To our center's supporters, please know that we will not be deterred by such attacks. Oh, I also encourage you to go see "Atlas Shrugged III"!

Good afternoon, I just want to bring to your attention the rather unpleasant sight of accumulated cigarette butts on the Randall Manor , Cranston Housing Authority property. I am at Apartment B216 , 75 Mathewson St. As I leave the building in the morning I catch sight of hundreds of cigarette butts on the lawn opposite the doorway with its NO SMOKING sign. I am tempted to pick them up myself. But they are a so obvious offensive sight.
Perhaps the office can supply some big outside ashtrays ?
I have been a resident here since 2011 and rarely have anything to complain about . I am a non-smoker . Randal Manor is mostly a pleasant and safe place to live.
