Care workers caught by hidden camera abusing elderly woman with dementia
Is this what your senile mother or father has to look forward in our mostly FOR PROFIT health care system ? I worked at Bannister House Nursing Home in Providence ,Rhode Island ( circa 1978-1982 ) . Most of the staff had the gift of " caring " for the aged. But there must also be understanding for a stressed out , overworked , underpaid nursing staff. I learned from my four year experience as a CNA, then moved on.
All nursing homes with extremely vulnerable elderly patients must be expertly supervised. And attention must be paid to the morale of staff . Try a six hour day and four shifts ?

A still useful library reference book for classical music leads me to a masterpiece of " genius " now found on You Tube
About 10 years ago I bought for just one dollar a classic music reference book ON SALE at the Providence Public Library. A digital tag on the back cover of the big paperback back indicated that it was in their Reference Dept. That useful to ME Ref. Dept. was strangely closed . Mostly public computers in that spacious room now. The book title : " The Penguin Guide to Recorded CLASSICAL MUSIC 2009 - " the perfect guide to building your classical collection. " Although my radio announcer father ( " Don Rogers " WEAN , Providence , did have an impressive record collection in our basement studio ( it was acquired FOR FREE after the station was sold forcing Pop's retirement ) those records - which would be quite valuable today - are long gone . But You Tube made it possible for me to " recover " so much of the music. The WEAN station manager once told Pop that he was overdoing Mantovani . Browsing this classical music reference book today I wondered if I could get what I imagined was an obscure piece . My attention was caught by this review which read in part : " Rozhdestvensky here conducts a passionate account of what in many ways is the most powerful of all the composer's ( Howels, Herbert ) major works ( page 593 ). The title " Missa Sabrinesis " . Another review called it " a masterpiece. Its true genius revealed in this exceptionally sensitive performance ". Was this " genius " musical work on You Tube , I wondered. Sure enough it was ! What I heard of the music so far makes me think it SUBLIME indeed.

"Un atardecer encantador", así se llama esta deliciosa melodía escrita por Richard Rodgers y Óscar Hammerstein II, dos excelentes compositores de revistas musicales desde los años 30 hasta casi los 80; Mantovani y su Orquesta de cuerdas recogieron esta composición original de "South Pacific", y sobre ella produjeron y grabaron esta majestuosa versión, convertida en toda una joya digna de ser escuchada sin descanso por los amantes de la música brillante de todas las épocas.

I’m a Portuguese 22 year old. In this very harsh lockdown due to the pandemic, I was going through some stuff in the attic and found my late grandfather’s old record player, along with some vinyls. Found this song in a Mantovani record and somehow I feel connected with my grandfather, who past away in 2000, when I was 2.
Music and YouTube are incredible tools to keep our minds healthy! Hope you have an amazing day.

On the RIPTA 21 bus this morning circa 9:30 AM the bus driver - quite naturally - had to stop the bus to attend to a body function at the nearby gas station. I was reminded of a post I made way back 2014 decrying the lack of public restrooms in " OUR democracy " . Is there anything more democratic than taking a piss or taking a s**t ?

I can only agree with our state leaders- seeking tourist dollars- who want to make Little Rhody more visitor friendly. But they often forget the basics. A tradition of New England puritanism makes many business owners hostile to human physiology . I see many obnoxious NO PUBLIC RESTROOM signs in my frequent RIPTA bus travels. You would think that the Kennedy Plaza bus station rest- room could be open just as long as the buses are running-or even later. Around twilight I find myself walking in the alley between the Superman Building and the CVS store. And I am nearly sickened by the overpowering stench of many stale gallons of urine. The homeless or " just drunk " late at night ? Of course in the light of day we could just arrest and fine ( fine the penniless ! ) them all for " indecent exposure ". But we are all too human: is having a full bladder an " abominable and detestable crime against nature ?
To be sure, we need more USER FRIENDLY public restrooms in Rhode Island. The late 60s rascal Abbie Hoffman demanded that we " abolish pay-public toilets. But like pay-public phones they are no more to be found.

Way back in September 1963 the news reported that the Italian immigrant Carmine drowned himself off Narragansett Pier , despondent over a failed pizzeria there and failing health at the age of 63. Recall that MEDICARE did not pass until 1965 , a year of LBJ'S " Great Society ". I found Carmine 's grave site at Section 30 , number 366 . Buried with him is his wife " Lena " .

The Next Big Thing
I'm sure you can see exactly where all this is going. By all this, I refer to the cortège of disasters orchestrated by "Joe Biden" and associates — with help from a power-crazed globalist cabal — hauling our country at a gallop now to the graveyard of empires. Is there any question that they are out to wreck Western Civ? And speeding up the action because too many actual citizens are rising to oppose their degenerate wickedness?
Most particularly, the people who have not surrendered their reason to the Woke-Marxist mind-fuck that calls itself "progressivism" have had enough of the purposeful inflow of something like ten-thousand fake asylum-seekers a day across the border, mostly men, a lot of them from China, and many more of them mutts from faraway lands where Jihad is the order of the day — meaning the crusade to exterminate the people of Western Civ. We're supposed to be okay with that.
This deliberate, treasonous policy was rightfully declared an "invasion" last week by the Governor of Texas, requiring the human wave to be met with real force, not the welcome wagon that the federal border patrol has been turned into. The result so far is a real-live Mexican stand-off between the regime in Washington and the state of Texas, joined by twenty-five other sympathetic US states willing to send men and matériel to seal the border.
None of this is reported in Monday morning's New York Times, by the way, though you can read Is Dying Your Hair Bad for Your Health there. Nor will you read about the caravan of American truckers striking out from all points around the country to "peacefully protest and pray" at the border while Texas attempts to settle its hash with "Joe Biden." Nor will you read about the uprising of European farmers blocking highways to protest ruinous EU rules on food imports, diesel fuel prices, carbon emissions inanity, and, of course, the officially-enabled tide of Africans and jihadists flooding into EU member states.
"Joe Biden's" response so far is to say he'll attend to the border situation only if Congress green-lights another massive aid package for Ukraine, a dishonest proffer from any angle. Ukraine is a lost cause that should never have been a cause of ours in the first place. Yet securing the US border is a principal duty of the executive branch, not some optional fringe benefit to be used as leverage for other projects. Congress has already got impeachment articles ready for Homeland Security Secretary Mayorkas, who has lied repeatedly under oath about the border being "secure." But it's obviously not enough. The failure is entirely "Joe Biden's" and warrants his impeachment on its face, aside from all the evidence of bribery and racketeering among him and his family.
The best move would be to impeach both the president and his proclaimed "border czar" Veep Kamala Harris — which would put Speaker Mike Johnson in the oval office. But the impeachment process is too slow and awkward for that. So, now I will tell you where all this is actually going: "Joe Biden" will seize an excuse to declare a national emergency and subject the US to some manner of martial law.
The excuse could be an outbreak of violence in the quarrel between the states and the feds over the border. Or it could be a widening of the war in the Middle East, a direct confrontation with Iran that would draw in Russia and Turkey and kickoff World War Three, a war we would have an excellent shot at losing, considering our DEI-ravaged, over-vaxxed army, our obsolete naval carrier groups that can be sunk by hypersonic missiles, and our depleted reserves of armaments already fobbed off by Ukraine and, lately, given to Israel in the Gaza campaign to destroy Hamas. If such a war didn't set off a world-ending exchange of nukes, it would at least collapse the economies of Europe and America and, with that, many governments, including possibly ours. And what role might all those recently-arrived illegal aliens play in such a fiasco? Any way you cut it, we'd be in for chaos and hardship.
Or, if we somehow avert major war, "Joe Biden" can try the national emergency ploy when the much-heralded (by the WHO) "Disease X" trots onstage. (And we must ask whether that will just be a delayed side-effect of the mRNA vaccine deaths?) Ultimately, the purpose of any national emergency at this moment in history, whatever prompts it, will be to suspend the 2024 elections. The Democratic Party has gone so completely off-the-rails psychologically that it will do anything to avert losing control of the government.
The Lawfare cases aimed at knocking Donald Trump off the game-board were assigned to corrupt and stupid prosecutors who are botching their jobs in perfect sequence. They are already baking the cake for Fani Willis's farewell office party in Georgia, and Jack Smith is being undermined daily by the emergent truth about government's role in fomenting the J6 riot. The ridiculous judgment rendered last week in the E. Jean Carroll defamation charade, is certain to be reversed on appeal. Note the assembled tweets below attributed to Ms. Carroll's "X" account and draw your own conclusions about her character, especially her sexual proclivities. (By the way, Judge Lewis Kaplan ruled them inadmissible as evidence for Mr. Trump's defense.)
Now, where the next national emergency or some kind of martial law is concerned, the catch is that at least half of America will refuse to comply with diktats coming out of Blob Central. They've had enough trips laid on them. The government has been flirting dangerously with the loss of legitimacy as the disastrous "Joe Biden" term grinds on, but this would really ice it. Whatever other tragic consequences follow, it would be the end of our constitutional republic, and history will install "Joe Biden" in the Hall of Infamy as the man who killed it.

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday delivered a nearly two-hour long State of the Nation address, - among many other wide-ranging topics, assessing the invasion of Ukraine he ordered a year ago .
Below is the full text transcript in English of his speech independently translated from the original speech in Russian (Russia refers to the Russia-Ukraine War as a special military operation):
Vladimir Putin: Good afternoon!
Dear deputies (members) of the Federal Assembly - senators, deputies of the State Duma!
Dear citizens of Russia!
With today's Address, I am speaking at a difficult time - we all know this very well - a milestone time for our country, at a time of cardinal, irreversible changes throughout the world, the most important historical events that determine the future of our country and our people, when each of we have a huge responsibility.
A year ago, in order to protect people on our historical lands, to ensure the security of our country, to eliminate the threat posed by the neo-Nazi regime that emerged in Ukraine after the 2014 coup, a decision was made to conduct a special military operation. And step by step, carefully and consistently, we will solve the tasks before us.
Starting from 2014, Donbass fought, defended the right to live on its own land, speak its native language, fought and did not give up in the conditions of blockade and constant shelling, undisguised hatred from the Kiev regime, believed and waited for Russia to come to the rescue.
Meanwhile - and you know this well - we did everything possible, really everything possible to solve this problem by peaceful means, patiently negotiated a peaceful way out of this grave conflict.
But a completely different scenario was being prepared behind our backs. The promises of the Western rulers, their assurances about the desire for peace in the Donbass turned out to be, as we now see, a forgery, a cruel lie. It is plain to see that our bodily nature needs very few things to banish pain, and to furnish us with many pleasures that are enjoyable from time to time. The root of Evil in OUR lives is beyond a doubt the anarchic circumscribed " I". What I want , what I crave, what I must have vetoes basic human decency, the connection to COMMUNITY. CAPITALIST society in general dulls this human communal instinct.

Very possibly our civilization - among other internal contradictions - has just grown too big for its bridges ( not enough readily available resources to sustain the infrastructure ). I have been a critical supporter of ” socialist ” Democrat Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont. He has un-demonized the WORD socialism. But I must say that any hard core SOCIALIST has no business showing any respect for capitalist values, including sacrosanct property rights or intellectual property rights. Most socialists- not recognized celebrities- want to abolish FOR PROFIT medicine,FOR PROFIT nursing homes and hospitals, FOR PROFIT pharmacies; they want to nationalize the banks,the energy companies, all the natural resources of the nation, want to abolish the whole capitalist class – with the exception of well scrutinized small business owners.
Militant socialists have always questioned the legitimacy of legitimate wealth. This follows from Marx’s labor theory of value.
A real socialist revolution in America would -almost overnight- abolish the whole legal system ( yes, even the Supreme Court ) and every individual connected with it. There will be a lot of judges, lawyers, cops, prison wardens and guards collecting unemployment benefits for more than 6 months.
Everybody connected with advertising will simply be obsolete. There will be no legalized gambling or state lotteries.
Even the present day funeral industry will quickly disappear. Being buried soon after death will simply be a human right.
What would a Bernie Sanders presidency be like ? It would be a lot like liberal Hubert Humphrey in the White House .
No surprises from a ” socialist ” Democrat !

As a long time independent democratic socialist I think what is going on in Politics USA is a deep crisis of the TWO PARTY SYSTEM . Both the Democrats and the Republicans invariably serve Corporate America but with slightly different agendas. Biden's WOKE WARRIOR Democratic Party , I think , is a greater threat of " fascism " than Trump's conservative populism.
The WOKE WARRIOR Democratic Party is desperate for 99 % of the Black vote to win the 2024 presidential election. But most Black Americans are just ordinary working class people routinely betrayed by both the Democratic Party and the Republican Party .
I am somewhat optimistic about the INDEPENDENT candidate for U.S. president Robert F. Kennedy Jr. A true " Profile in Courage " himself.
I agree that what biased " liberal " journalists say is " THE LAW" is now a weapon for the persecution - not prosecution- of former president Donald Trump.
Also, age is not just a number and statistics not a joke. We are wise to look for LEADERS in all fields at the height of their ability. The still competent seniors can be wise advisors in the background.
According to famous physicist Richard Feynman even top scientists in this country play " follow the leader " . Perhaps our " democratic " instincts are relatively weak on all fronts.

Old Italian Barber Shops Reverie
Reverie on Old Italian Barber Shops
My Italian barber is past age 80 and named " Sal ". Sal now works part time at " Jim' Hair Salon "on Reservoir Ave. in Cranston- not far from the Burger King on Park Ave. I think my younger brother John was a regular customer of retiring Tony. These old Italian immigrant family barbers hear a lot of tales and often tell them. That Knightsville neighborhood near St. Mary's Church is the quintessential Italian-American neighborhood. Even the road is divided by those red, white, and green Italian flag colors.
My Italian immigrant grandmother, living on Federal Hill for 50 years, would -affectionately I am sure - put down my " shoe maker " grandfather: " Hey, Shoemaker, I should've married The Barber ! ".
When my grandfather, Ludovico, lost his own shoe repair shop he found work at UNCAS Jewelry - but was scolded for being " too slow ".
Those old City of Providence Directories( 1922- 1965 ) still found in the reference area of the Providence Public Library can refresh memories about the Old Neighborhood. My grandparents lived at 62 Gesler St.
At Pops's funeral ( from Nardollilo to nearby St. Ann's Cemetery ) my brother Mike and I suddenly had a moment of hilarious, comic relief , doubt : Was Pop ( Domenico ) -just possibly- il barbiere 's ragazzo ?
Another Italian barber memory : a guy known as " Sanitary Joe " misunderstood my kid brother Mike's hair cutting instructions and Mike showed up at an Italian wedding with an awful looking crew cut- just a Marine Corps boot camp style shaved head.
I can still smell Sanitary Joe's Bay Rum- a bit of olfactory pleasantness in his dingy joint
A quartet of Italian barbers had a shop in Washington Park Square in Providence back in the 1950s One had a reputation as " a bookie ". Another said that my uncle Nicholas -fluent in the Italian language - was a " fascist ". The boss of the place was Al . Sitting in the barber chair I could see my Broad Street School and Collier's bakery .
I visit my elderly -but still good- barber Sal only four times a year: in summer, fall, winter, spring. But no social security increases next year ( and soon no more Senior Bus Pass ) . So just one hair cut for me next year- just before Easter. Sorry about that, Sal !

Young people will be eager to join another " Great Crusade " and vote en masse for corrupt , senile , creepy Joe Biden ? Or for " lesser evil " right wing blowhard Donald Trump ?
Let us at least listen to INDEPENDENT Robert F. Kennedy Jr. ?

There is hardly one public official in " OUR democracy " Democratic Party Approved " who connects any serious social evils with the capitalist SYSTEM. Just how well educated are these mostly college graduates in the SCHOOL of REALITY ?
For example , how can you NOT connect the homeless crisis ( migrants and citizens ) with sacrosanct landlord-capitalist PRIVATE PROPERTY rights ? What does the military budget have to do with the " security " of US -ordinary working class people ?

A Long Way from the Slide Rule !
While fossilized high school math teachers debate the wisdom
of hand calculators in the classroom, their smart-ass pupils have no
doubt all ready discovered a blissful shortcut for that tedious
homework : on line calculators -hundreds of them !
What would have taken the sputnik generation hours to do, can
now be done in minutes . For example, you can locate an " applet " that
will instantly solve a quadratic equation for you,or given 3 sides of
a triangle, compute the area according to the elegant Heron's Formula.
Those on line graphers are just amazing for those of us who can
still remember the slide rule. Remember how tedious it was to graph
second and third degree equations ? Now just type in the equation and
click ! A neat and beautiful graph appears before your eyes.
There are amazing resources on the WWW even for the advanced
calculus: instant " integration " and " differentiation ".
" Now the kids don't even have to THINK ! " you might conclude.
I think that it is a good thing that teachers will be denied the
pleasure of instilling a permanent inferiority complex in MOST of their
pupils. But -seriously - these homework aids actually FREE the mind for
the more important matter of UNDERSTANDING concepts.
I still recall that " the null set is a subset of all sets ". I
owe my splendid success in life to that !

I was introduced to the great ancient city Rome when I learned that My Uncle Nick Ruggieri was assigned a diplomatic post there in 1950s :
" He [ Nicholas Ruggieri of Providence , Rhode Island ]joined the U.S. Foreign Service in 1955, specializing in public affairs, and served as a public affairs officer for U.S. Embassies in Rome, Buenos Aires and Saigon. He retired in 1977 and became a freelance editor and writer in the Washington area."
