As a democratic socialist and an old fashioned Catholic I think the nation-states of the world desperately need a stronger, saner UNITED NATIONS . It is foolish to over-vilify any nation state in the 21st century. Are the Russian oligarchs on a lower moral level than the American plutocrats effectively in control of " OUR democracy " ? Just how does the American plutocracy plan to IMPROVE post-communist Russia ? Let " OUR democracy " show the way ? In 1917 the Russian Czar was replaced - in the midst of World War I- by Lenin and his Bolshevik Party. Another Lenin waits in the wings to replace " Czar " Putin in Russia ? Would not DEMOCRATIC socialism be an immense improvement for the Russian people ? I hope the next Russian Revolution will have more respect for the religious instincts of the human race. The biggest mistake of the 1917 revolution was to declare THE STATE officially atheist. That turned off still mostly Catholic Europe-perhaps even Germany ( which Lenin hoped would come to the rescue of isolated Russia ) . The collapse of the Soviet Union circa 1991 stupefied the capitalists of the whole world into thinking once again that their economic system - based on the exploitation and oppression of the working class - would and should be around forever. But TIME remains the great subversive . And they cannot kill the IDEA of a better world !
