There is a very old-and quite convincing - Marxist view of the role of the mainstream news media in capitalist imperialist America. They SERVE the interests of the ONE PERCENT , THEIR people. Any working class people on strike, on a picket line, soon learn that they have no FRIEND in the major newspapers and no FRIEND in the police force-whatever their race or ethnic group .
The mainstream news media - in its self-importance and self-glorification ( heroes of " OUR democracy " ? ) - like the YELLOW PRESS at the end of the 19th century - stirs up war fever against numerous foreign " villains " - Russia, China, Iran, North Korea, even poor little Venezuela.
All this was explained very well by the decidedly on the Left American historian Howard Zinn in his " People's History of the United States . Today so many " liberals " slobber over the FBI, the CIA , the very undemocratic shadow government ( FRIENDS of THE PEOPLE ? ) .
We the democratic socialists of the United States don't hesitate to NAME the " enemy of the people " : the capitalist system and its ONE PERCENT plutocracy - a plutocracy that controls both Democratic Party and the Republican Party.
Do you think this TRUTH will see the light of day in the Boston Globe ( which fired Howard Zinn after he wrote a rather " unpatriotic " Memorial Day column . Zinn was anti-war ) ?
