Bertrand Russell had no illusions about " democracy " in America or
about the benevolence of the capitalist economic system. He also made
the point that religious beliefs were simply irrelevant to Socialism.
If
an atheist simply cannot stand religious people, he or she has no place
in this egalitarian socialist movement.
But our New Atheists -led by former Trotskyist Christopher Hitchens ( deceased ) -are a decidedly nasty clique.
Hitchens wrote a book titled : " God is Not Great - why religion poisons everything ".
I can't imagine Albert Camus, for example, writing in such a tone.
