Brother Ray : " And now YOU [ God ] even give me a Nazi pope ! "

Veteran drives through crowd in Times Square: The war comes home

For what it is worth I think I have an insight into the predisposition to a mental breakdown-based on sad observations of close relatives and some dear friends : human beings need to UNDERSTAND their social environment. I know that religion is always being bashed by the pseudo-Left in a way that is alien to Marxism. But " faith " could up to the " God Is Dead " era ( Time Magazine , 1968 ) keep vulnerable minds from cracking.

I recall my poor mentally ill middle aged brother Ray - a devout Catholic - shaking his fist at a crucifix on the wall - with Job like eloquence. I heard him say : " And now  YOU even give me a Nazi pope ! "

Divorced against his wishes, working around cops all day as an electronics technician for the Warwick police force, lonely, confused and depressed, my brother just did not UNDERSTAND the social forces behind his 1992 crack up.

He was in danger of being homeless after being evicted from a Cranston apartment complex.
About four years ago my sister and I , checking on Ray at his Warwick apartment off Sandy Lane  found his bloated blackened corpse on a hot July morning. We were about to help him get an air conditioner.

Ray served in the Rhode Island National Guard. I thought about the tragedy of the mentally ill in this country as I heard the honor guard's gun salute going off in the Pawtuxet Cemetery.
