Newport Naval War College influences local " liberalism " ?

Newport couple soon to decide : Bernie or Hillary ?

War: The great unmentionable in the 2016 US elections

31 March 2016
" The  most striking feature of the 2016 US election campaign is the virtual absence of discussion of what is by far the most serious issue facing the people of the United States and the world, looming over everything else: the escalating military conflict that threatens to plunge the entire planet into a new world war.  " ( from the World Socialist Web Site )

I just spent a few hours of a beautiful Sunday afternoon yesterday driving around beautiful, picturesque Newport, Rhode Island with a like- minded friend.

It is easier to feel a bit more optimistic about the American Way of Life here- even if you can only have visitor status at the Newport mansions that line Bellevue Ave.I get the impression that the couple dining at Gary's Handy Lunch like Bernie Sanders but favor Hillary Clinton because of " national security " concerns.

Could the heavy presence of the Newport Naval War College be a major influence on " liberal " voters here ?

You can also associate pleasant Newport with the Gilded Age of glorified Robber Barons whose fortunes were not made independently of U.S. imperialism.

Under-reported in U.S. news media is growing tension in the South China Sea. Perhaps hawkish Hillary can explain why islands off the coast of China should not be a Chinese " possession " ? Anti-imperialist author Mark Twain wondered more than a century ago about the Stars & Stripes over a " liberated " Cuba .

It seems that an anti-imperialism attitude and a more than modest concern for social justice might incline you to vote for " socialist " Democrat Bernie Sanders in the Rhode Island primary later this month.
Newport Naval War College - nope, no pacifism here !
