American psychiatry is helpless to treat depression -or many other forms of mental illness - because its professional charlatans are corrupted from the beginning in medical school with capitalism based assumptions about the sanity of conformist behavior. One exception was the socialist humanist Dr. Erich Fromm author of " The Sane Society " in the 1950s. Also the deinstitutionalization of the extreme mentally ill was a crime against humanity accounting for the numerous DEPRESSED (of course ! ) homeless people in the streets of the USA. Affluent psychiatrists with upper income patients INVEST in mental illness ! The health care system allows them to turn away Medicare and Medicaid patients.
