My mother , Janet Ruggieri , was employed by Brown University Health Services for more than 25 years . She LOVED her job and loved the people she worked with . But her pension after retirement was a LITTLE on the stingy side : just about $100.00 per month. Was Ma being punished here for past days of WHITE PRIVILEGE ? She grew up in South Providence during the Depression Era , the daughter of a Providence police officer , William Engley . ( The Engley family has ancestors documented as having served in the American Revolution and Civil War ( on the Union side ) . Engley names are inscribed on plaques honoring war veterans in Uxbridge , Mass .
