My grandfather Ludovico Ruggieri lived for nearly 50 years 62 Gesler St, Providence , Rhode Island , in the world famous FEDERAL HILL neighborhood. He was a musician who played the clarinet in a band . Whenever he would hear the Puccini opera " La Boheme " he would tear up thinking that he would never more see his beloved Italy . Never more ! He and his wife Andreanna gave birth to three very talented sons : Nicholas, Louis , and Domenic ( my father ) . Whenever my brother Rick and I stayed at 62 Gesler St. as kids in the 1950s Grandma would always take us to early mass at Holy Ghost Church . I recall all her various holy medals and greenish glow in the dark rosary beads. The lit holy candles on a hot summer night in a dark bedroom from the open window of which I could smell the freshly baked Italian bread at DeSantis Bakery. At dinner Rick and I could always have a little wine in our ice water.
