I have visited the NEW & IMPROVED Providence Public Library twice this week. Very big improvements . I hope this underused city treasure gets all the funds it deserves . I was , however , disappointed to learn that they have abolished ( ? ) the REFERENCE DEPARTMENT . What is a respectable public library without its REFERENCE DEPARTMENT and wonderful, helpful REFERENCE LIBRARIAN ?

True ,in the past homeless denizens of Kennedy Plaza might camp inside the REFERENCE ROOM for the day in unscholarly torpor. Can't SOCIAL WORKERS be alerted to that problem ?

Also, the Providence Public Library would benefit from a FREE , spacious ,public parking lot . At least as big and convenient as that of the Warwick Public Library .

The clean WALK-IN new restrooms at the Providence Public Library are preferable to the old and seedy one person restrooms where any junkie might attend to his or her habit beyond normal body functions.

Ear plugs should be provided for serious students at the library who are distracted by the neglected mentally ill talking to themselves or screaming at invisible antagonists .

But somehow CIVILIZATION survives !
