The charlatan Rev. Shawn Whittington and X-the Unknown

I just got a whiff of the " THE EXORCIST " Rev. Shawn Whittington and his " Weird Tales " on local radio this morning . As an old fashioned Catholic myself I found this guy a strain on credulity. The authority of SCIENCE and skeptical books like Carl Sagan's " Demon Haunted World " also fit into my world view.
Please don't ask me to believe anything without eye witnesses and credible EVIDENCE. The credible loving Jesus of the Gospels would have flunked out as a MAKE-A-BUCK hysterical TV evangelist in our 21st century .

I agree that SCIENCE is also a GOD THAT FAILED. But THANK GOD for telescopes and microscopes and petri dishes and the SCIENTIFIC METHOD . And RELATIVE truth that makes human life more interesting and endurable.

As a gambler it is safe to bet on NATURAL CAUSES 99.99 percent of the time. Now and then the congenial THE EXORCIST can earn an honest living !

How curious that a hardcore scientific materialist like H.P. Lovecraft was obsessed in his weird fiction with COSMIC HORROR . Not just in high school Algebra there is always X - the Unknown .
