The attacks on the grave site of Karl Marx are also just plain UNCIVILIZED. There are monuments to ruling class scoundrels or " heroes " all over the world going back 3000 years. They ALL belong to HISTORY now and should be above the hurt feelings of moralizing philistines.
As a democratic socialist ( in the unpolluted sense of the term ) I would never attend or support a dishonoring of any historical grave sites- not even of the Old South.
Can you picture any pious Catholics vandalizing ancient Nero statues in modern Rome ?
Hegel was right to see HISTORY as a process : whatever IS is RIGHT and whatever IS is also worthy of perishing.
Even a traditional college level Western Civilization textbook that I was reading just last night perceives BROAD PATTERNS in human history - with CLASS STRUGGLE all too obvious. Individuals only play a role.

On the bus in Providence I noticed a Christopher Columbus statue that was vandalized a while back. So " it was all HIS fault " , the famous Italian navigator who " discovered " the New World ? He brought the whole nightmare of Western Civilization to the Native American innocents - even the PLAGUE long before the germ theory of disease was known ?
Everywhere in the USA there are grandiose monuments to the famous " Robber Barons " . Nobody vandalizes them - nor should they.
RESPECT is not just a bourgeois virtue !
