Do not these government spending numbers boggle the mind ? Actually the NUMBER 1.7 trillion in scientific notation looks like this :
1.7 e + 12 - Which is almost nothing as a quantity compared to a number also expressed in scientific notation familiar to bright high school chemistry students :
Avogadro's Number : 6.02 e + 23 a measure of MOLES in chemical reactions.
There are far more molecules in a gram of gold than there are abstract dollars in the budget of the federal government .

So even understanding economic statistics of the federal government is not hopeless -with or without a scientific calculator .
