Cicilline's orations ( never quite honest ) against the imagined arch-enemy of " OUR democracy "- Donald Trump - reminded me of old Cicero in ancient Rome ranting against the notorious Catiline and his " conspiracy " ( NOTE : at the time Cicero was making these famous eloquent speeches his dear REPUBLIC was already turning rotten. Hence Julius Caesar. ) But our very WOKE Democratic leaders in the Congress and in the Senate are a long way from the party of FDR and JFK . In just two decades they have succeeded in alienating many working class Americans , especially those from a traditional Catholic background . Indeed the WOKE Democratic Party is close to making traditional Christianity anathema. One characteristic of the FASCIST - which Democratic Party zealots brand Donald Trump and his MAGA followers - is contempt for the FREE SPEECH tradition of " OUR democracy ". But just who does all this censoring in the mainstream news media and in social media today ? Conservatives ? What I see as a long time independent democratic socialist is rampant-quite irrational - ILLIBERAL LIBERALISM. How many decent citizens live in FEAR of " saying the wrong thing " in " OUR democracy ". Another observation : not one Democratic politician in the recent midterm 2022 elections was a sane ANTI-WAR voice, a voice for world peace. Name one ?
