I just viewed a You Tube film clip of Labor MP Jo Cox speaking out with humanity and compassion for the Syrian refugees. She was ,it now seems, bitterly loathed by these " Britain First " zealots-described in the liberal news media as " fascist " types.
The world now seems a lot like it was more than a century ago in August 1914. Rival imperialisms can no more " get along " with one another than they could with " world communism " .
I am bewildered why there is not more political energy devoted to reviving the faded hopes of the United Nations. Human history does not culminate in so many antagonistic , circumscribed nation states.
For higher human types like MP Jo Cox " patriotism " meant more than " My Country Right or Wrong ". European Unity is a fine ideal but global capitalism undermines it.
I read that Jo Cox was involved in President Barack Obama's 2008 campaign. A time of greater idealism: " Hope and Change " ?
