A lot of good citizens of the United States think that
somehow lying " under oath " is always as serious a matter as the
violation of law being investigated.
If Bill Clinton lied under oath about leaving the toilet seat
down in the Oval Office , it would be an impeachable offense ?
If we think about this " under oath " business , we might
conclude that it is in itself a quasi-religious act : one swears only
to the Almighty ! What if you don't believe in Him ?
And it is rather ludicrous to swear on THE BOOK whose every
page is filled with historical or scientific untruth .
This making statements " under oath " is in itself an unconstitutional
violation of Church and State.
The practice should be abolished. One must simply be asked to
stake his personal HONOR - a secular concept - on truth telling.
Then lying under oath becomes a matter of destroying your good
reputation - which is punishment enough for one utterly dependent on
public approval .
I swear the Republicans are hypocrites !
