The Chinese Communist Party took the wind out of Mao's " Little Red Book "

[As a democratic socialist I have no impulse to rant against varieties of " communism " in the abstract . But the Chinese Communist Party has come a long way from revolutionary evangelicalism, from the days of Mao and his famous " Little Red Book ". There were fanatical Maoist groups in the United States in the tumultuous Sixties. So much like a religious cult, ATHEIST Maoism : I joked way back then : " The Bible cannot possibly replace the Little Red Book as a source of inspiration and a guide to salvation for us all ! " To be sure , with all these " communist " millionaires , you can tell that THE PARTY took the very wind out of " communism ". Picture the Catholic Church no longer quoting the Gospel, no longer quoting Saint Peter and Saint Paul. No longer referring seminary students to the works of Saint Augustine and Saint Thomas Aquinas. Then finally taking the very name of Jesus out of their encyclicals ! This is what the Chinese Communist Party did to Marx, Engels , Lenin, Mao. No longer any screeching appeals to the " workers of the world ". Soon THE PARTY will replace pictures of Mao with pictures of Ayn Rand .
