Dying with dignity in American hospitals ?

Don't trust FOR PROFIT hospitals -or any hospital that subordinates itself to medicine as BUSINESS in capitalist America- to show routine humanity in caring for those " expected to survive " patients - never mind the near death patients.

Many hospitals - understaffed and demoralized by budget limitations - are clueless even about common courtesy.

My father passed away at Roger Williams Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island at age 76 in 1999. He did not die alone. Loving family members were present. But they report that they-not the hospital staff - had to protect Pop's dignity in his last hours.

Could a dying patient at least have the bed curtains drawn and be spared the last word in capitalist vulgarity : the dumb TV commercials ?

The cancer treatment centers of local hospitals seem clueless about recognizing and respecting the humanity of high anxiety, depressed, and generally miserable patients. How about a smile and a kind word ? How about some COMMUNICATION ?
