Einstein proved right again- about gravity waves

In his book " The Demon Haunted World " astronomer Carl Sagan, who could be visibly excited by esoteric things like warped space time,black holes, and gravity waves way back in the 1980s- still the Stone Age of modern technology, in that book he warned about the moral obligation of scientists to explain their science to the public, to promote science literacy.

How many Americans -reading their daily horoscopes- will appreciate this very expensive, seemingly MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING science project ? How does a space time warp significantly less than a diameter of a proton connect with everyday life?

The public will want to FEEL the success of a billion dollar science project . A while back THEY discovered the God Particle in the European atom smasher. But God Himself is curiously silent about this.

A mutation of a DNA molecule - a few atomic lengths- can condemn a human embryo to the sad life of the severely learning disabled. Or how can science help the poor kids who have been lead poisoned by toxic water in Flint, Michigan?

I hope the detection of gravity waves proves to be as wonderful for human knowledge as the Hubble Telescope.

A billion dollars is really not that much money for Big Government anyway. More money is wasted on foolish and endless wars.

Einstein was also RIGHT AGAIN about something else dear to his heart : read his still relevant essay : "Why Socialism?" It is still the best hope for the world's people to escape from the BLACK HOLE of POVERTY.

  "   Are we alone ? " The very meaning of human life on the planet earth is tied up with this question. If you believe in a somewhat traditional God, then you must not suppose that HE is obsessed with HUMAN life here-and then mostly with our rather disordered sex life.
I recall Carl Sagan's passion for this question in " Contact " and his humane compassion for people of faith. In his TV series " Cosmos " he tells the viewers that " we are made of star stuff ".
So if we have any meaningful future as a species it must be OUT THERE.
The truth might ultimately confirm religious hope. Or it might confirm the H.P. Lovecraft nightmare vision of " cosmic horror " and hateful OLD ONES. Lovecraft thought that knowledge itself will some day undermine the sanity of the human race.
That earth like planet is 1400 light years away. The recent exciting Pluto probe took ten years. If we could send a spaceship there going at the speed of light, we would get no ANSWER until has passed 1000+400 years.
A famous English poet writing about human vanity said that all we really need in THIS life is faith, hope, and love.Mostly HOPE !

Hands off Cuban Socialism!

As a citizen of the United States and a democratic Socialist I would hate to see everything good and decent and progressive about socialist Cuba spoiled by the corrupting influence of American vulture capitalism.

Has the world been told the full story behind the collapse of Soviet era communism? How could hundreds of thousands of Russian Communist Party members – almost over night– abandon the rational ideology of scientific socialism (which was never a Stalinist personality cult) and embrace the reactionary American crackpot Ayn Rand? Embrace the socially insane principles of global capitalism?

Our popular science writer Carl Sagan reported that all sorts of intellectual rubbish was surfacing in post Soviet era Russia ( read his "Demon Haunted World"). A Lenin could have predicted this (Lenin's  work "Materialism and Empirio Criticism" is still very instructive)

I would love to see a revival of socialist thinking in Russia. In 2017 they should CELEBRATE the 100th anniversary of the Bolshevik Revolution. And once again reach out to the workers of the world.
