Providence Public School kids know they are being cheated by THE SYSTEM

Whatever their native intelligence or academic skills ( reading, writing, arithmetic, and MANNERS do matter in life ) the kids in Providence Public Schools are probably always " on edge " because they must sense too early in life that they are being gypped by THE SYSTEM , sense that they are , in fact, GOING NOWHERE in life, betrayed by a horrendously failing PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM. And Providence, Rhode Island schools have the same problems as those in Detroit , Chicago, Boston, New York City. And this massive public school failure is connected to decaying capitalism that can now only promise a bleak future of war and economic misery for working class people of all races and ethnic groups. If teachers sense that the kids in their classroom do not have a promising future, the kids will KNOW it. Hence the smoldering anger of adolescence- always looking for an outlet. When I was a student at Broad Street School Providence in the late 50s there was much more HOPE for the future " success " of working class and lower middle class kids. They had a future ! Now Broad St.School, renamed after ubiquitous FEINSTEIN, is being closed . Even rich patrons could not save it.
