There was a more enlightened attitude toward child molesters in the late 50s and early 60s

It seems to me that there was a more humane enlightened attitude toward these pathetic seedy man child molesters back in the late 50s and early 60s . I recall reading about them in some " Science Digest " articles. At the time there were still functional state mental institutions. Today the threatened " neighbors " with the instigation of POLICE ALERTS and the sanctimonious mainstream news media seem to arouse a no-pity lynch mob atmosphere on these very disturbed souls. On the outside of prison how can endless boredom ( try finding a job ? ) and fear of daily harassment help rehabilitate their minds ? I wonder what old Dr. Freud , the famous psychiatrist , thought about these cases of the incorrigible child molesters ? I doubt if he ever had an accused Catholic priest for a patient . Like all normal human beings the convicted child molester needs to " get a life" - both inside and outside prison. We reprint the editorial here in its entirety, with permission. ]
