Coming from an Italo-American background myself I note former Providence mayor Joe Paolino's civilized and sensitive view of the Christopher Columbus heritage. It is just WOKE nonsense to abolish COLUMBUS Day , especially in Rhode Island . Columbus was a brilliant navigator and a courageous man . He opened the New World to Western Civilization. History is what it is . Young people with some literate appreciation of Western Civilization would not include themselves in brainless mob hell bent on disgracing a lifeless statue. PROFESSORS who do are pathetic incompetents . HISTORY is what it is . Do devout Catholics in Rome deface statues of Nero ? Better for a nervous ruling class to direct the wrath of a " French Revolution " mood mob to inanimate statues than that a " Tale of Two Cities " mob should challenge LIVING oppressors. CIVILIZATION might triumph in the end . But who knows ?
