My homeless friend's Aunt Grace Alpert left a legacy to Brown University for brain research

Discussion on The Brown Daily Herald

Bill restricting sex offenders in homeless shelters passes Rhode Island House, Senate

A close friend of mine while homeless- whose Aunt Gracie left a legacy to Brown Medical School- spent a night at this Harrington Hall. It reminded him of a 19th century tuberculosis ward - with the coughing and the stench and the filth. UNFIT FOR HUMAN BEINGS !
I reported his experience to the Rhode Island Public Health Dept. but they never responded or cared to " investigate " ( a public health hazard ! ). Providence Journal columnist Bob Kerr interviewed my homeless-once rich- friend in Dunkin Donuts in Cranston for a hour . But Bob said my homeless friend's story would not " resonate " with his readers.
Even sex offenders need a decent place to live . What help can they get at Harrington Hall ?
In Rhode Island the homeless have a right to beg in the middle of a busy street. But what they should have is a right to a real HOME .
Aunt Gracie , I read in "Brown Medicine ", was very interested in brain research.
