For them " scientific " LOGIC & REASON has nowhere better to go than bashing the nearly universal belief in God ( which actually is a force for SANITY in many of the better type humans ) and the world's great religions ? In his classic work " Summa " Catholic theologian Thomas Aquinas was not unfamiliar with the most advanced LOGIC of his times , that of the re-discovered ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle . Later Hegel ( who was hardly an atheist ) made LOGIC more " dialectical " in connection with all the great scientific discoveries of the 19th century and since Copernicus , Galileo , and Newton. Karl Marx made Hegel's Logic more adapted to philosophical materialism. But 20 century science , and particularly atomic theory, has made the hard core materialism of Lucretius in his classic poem " On the Nature of Things " still brilliant but a lot more quantum field foggier . How many atomic " marbles " can you fit into the " head of a pin " that was primal state size of the Big Bang ? But a " Universe from Nothing " is a lot less credible than the Catholic Church doctrine of the Holy Eucharist !
