I grew up at a time when Left wing optimists were telling me that TRUE ideas were all powerful . For me there is no more powerful and convincing ( for those who will listen ! ) argument against the RULE OF PLUTOCRACY than a basic law of REALITY : you can't get something from nothing . The WEALTH amassed by the ruling capitalist class did not come from their oh-so- miraculously productive mental and physical exertions ( greater than that of the combined mental and physical exertions of the mass of collective humanity ? ) . With his own " Dialectical Logic " Karl Marx explained the accumulation of CAPITAL by his own LABOR THEORY of VALUE . He described the capitalist system as one based on the exploitation and oppression of the working class. If democratic socialist parties had to explain to the working class that they are EXPLOITED and OPPRESSED , then the cause of socialism would be forever hopeless. Even within the framework of bourgeois democracy the ruling class can be effectively challenged by an American Labor Party similar to the British Labor Party but less stuffy and compromised. Even a BARRICADES BATTLE like that of the Great French Revolution of 1789 can only end in representative parties arguing for VOTES in some awesome , majestic building ( in the Graeco-Roman style ? ) . FINALLY the pestilent plutocracy is democratically VOTED OUT OF EXISTENCE ! NOTE : [ Karl Marx also warned that the class struggle can " end in the common ruin of the contending classes " ]
