Most ominous in the mainstream news media are shades of the Old McCarthyism, the Cold War political climate that accepted nuclear war -what C.Wright Mills back then called " crackpot realism ".
On local radio here in Rhode Island there is a popular program titled " Intellectual Medicine " - usually far from " crackpot ". But this morning the good doctor ( Dr. Petteruti ) had a guest interview with a retired military officer. The topic : the North Korea " threat " and HOW TO PROTECT YOURSELF FROM RADIOACTIVE FALLOUT ".
For well paid radio talk show personalities and their fans ( don't you wish you had a profitable PERSONALITY ? ) we learn that there is an over the counter solution of a substance that will wash away radioactive particles -and thus assure the good doctor and fans that they can still live to his recommended 120 years !
This retired military officer sees some Saddam Hussein fate for the bellicose leader of North Korea - after an overwhelming attack of Cruise missiles .
Our present military elite -active or retired - are not less stupid than the French and German generals who masterminded " The Horror of Verdun " more than 100 years ago in that Great War - the war to make the world safe for democracy .
Where is the anti-war movement ? Where is S-A-N-E ?
