I have read or browsed a number of books by recovering or " cured "
alcoholics. These books often reveal sensitive, sensuous, almost poetic
souls. But as character in Poe's tale " The Black Cat " reflects : is
there any condition worse than alcoholism ?
Does having to wear a media persona " mask " every day contribute to the need for alcoholic escape ?
