Lincoln Chafee and New Hampshire's " Old Man of the Mountain "

   I just voted NO in your Providence Journal opinion poll: Should Lincoln Chafee drop out of presidential race? A lot can be said about his daffy, eccentric side . But the scornful liberal and conservative American news media is covering up one LINCOLN-ESQUE TRUTH: the " establishment" is determined to get this country-and mostly working class people are HONORED to die for the ONE PERCENT-involved in another ground war in the Middle East. Chafee's anti-war position- based on his Iraq War experience, his disgust at the BIG LIE-which gets us into most wars-is far more unambiguous and bold than " socialist " Bernie Sanders -my own favorite among progressive " insiders " .Sanders should read the anti-war speech of Eugene V. Debs : " The Canton Speech "-in which he opposed the Great War- the war to make the world safe for democracy.
The news media should stop throwing verbal rocks at our own granite Man of the Mountain. In the famous Hawthorne story the Old Man stood for something SOLID after all.
The Old Stone Face collapsed in 2003- and so did the anti-war movement in America soon after . Lincoln Chafee is one of those few awkward All-American, New England pacifists who have not been pacified.
