I just read your June 6 column, " Working poor are also the face of the homeless ".  The story of 51 year old " Ellen " and kids could have been written in your first year at the Providence Journal ( the beginning of the Reagan era ?  )
There is an old taboo among journalists writing for the mainstream news media : never indict the social system of CAPITALISM when covering human misery stories.

As a democratic socialist - wisely ignored by the Money gods-  I am free to say that it is precisely sacrosanct PRIVATE PROPERTY rights which make the homeless problem perpetual.

I think peaceful social change is absolutely possible . But it becomes less and less likely . Daily I witness scenes worthy of Charles Dickens " A Tale of Two Cities " with its WARNING of the Great French Revolution.

By the way most working class people cannot afford a ticket to the popular play "  Les Miserables ".

[ I will post this e-mail to you on my blog ]

NOTE : you are in your element when you write about                                                         Ron Ruggieri
 issues  more serious -less fluffy.
