Out of his later years the SOCIALIST Bertrand Russell was far more obsessed with the EVIL of American imperialism than with what he perceived as the irrational ( metaphysical ? ) side of religion. Read the book " Bertrand Russell's America " . The New Atheist Cult groupies never seemed to have had a " crisis of faith " in capitalism , American imperialism , and Israeli Zionism . That is because they do have a right wing political agenda as did their idol Christopher Hitchens , author of " God Is Not Great -how religion poisons everything " . Animosity toward religion certain poisoned Hitchens' left-wing political perspective. Supporting George W. Bush's Iraq War back in 2003 , he even became deliriously Islamophobic . Perhaps he realised that the most dangerous “god” of the modern age is not theological but political — the one demanding blind faith in flags, systems, and empires. Still, your observation about New Atheism is valid: disbelief, too, can become dogma when it stops questioning itself. But I wonder — could it be that both religion and atheism are, in the end, different ways of coping with humanity’s fear of truth? 1 Reply
