I read somewhere that world shaking revolutions are more likely to happen when the oppressed and exploited masses suddenly experience waves of HOPE . If THE SYSTEM corrupts everybody and everything , then sooner or later it will inevitably corrupt would be liberators of the oppressed - including ALL Marxist " vanguard " parties. This sort of PESSIMISM is hardly brainless . WE collectively could be one more failed species with our generation witnessing the END OF CIVILIZATION. But to seriously believe that is to give up hope for the GUIDING LIGHT - human or divine . Such a " Light " was to many working class people around the world the Russian Revolution of 1917 ( American journalist John Reed wrote the left-wing classic short history " Ten Days That Shook the World " ) . Sad that the sectarian LEFT still has an incurable habit of sniffing out " treacherous deviationists " on all fronts . All " friends of the movement " , until the Final Showdown , are just dubious friends and even potential " enemies of the people ". Perhaps David North and Chris Hedges should get together and talk over strong beer in some cozy , people friendly Irish pub . Who knows, maybe complex issues become clearer in the smoke and alcoholic fog of the pub ?
