The "democracy movement" in 1989 that the person being interviewed talks about was not socialist in any way, shape or form. Most folks in China these days looking back on it, view it as an attempt to fully restore capitalism. It came into being partly due to conditions inside of China, but was being manipulated by forces outside of China.
