Wakefield was only 57 years old ... Boson Red Sox reverie
Growing up with mostly pleasant memories of watched Red Sox ball games on TV and listened to radio broadcasts from classic Fenway Park, I did wonder if I would ever live to see the Rex Sox WIN a World Series. Legendary Knuckle ball pitcher Tim Wakefield helped make THE DREAM come true.
I have only been to Fenway Park a few times. Way back in the 1970 I thought tickets were too expensive. In my occasional visits to Boston I would now and then walk around Fenway Park savoring the sights and sounds and smells of that section of Boston.
I am old enough now to remember Ted Williams - less than a charmer, I learned , with the baseball fans - hitting his last home run. On TV , of course.
Wakefield was only 57 years old. How horrible it must be to hear that you have BRAIN CANCER. My nephew Rick Jr. Ruggieri Jr. passed away at age 48 of a very aggressive form of brain cancer. Rick left a wife and 5 young children behind.
At my age now 76 news of MORTALITY grows incessant. I also read that Ted William was a professed atheist. If he had HOPE for life prolonged it was in cryogenics !
Frozen in TIME is the image of Ted Williams hitting a home run to win an All Star Game. What a perfect swing-poet in motion .
