Without being a father myself I know TOO MUCH about fatherhood and motherhood in capitalist society. What makes for nervous breakdowns in middle age is not the JOY of family but the ISOLATED burden of caring for growing children and even grown up children.
Start with the bill : " THAT NEW BABY RAISED TO AGE I8 WILL COST A QUARTER OF A MILLION DOLLARS " . Then if you want this ONE kid to have a chance in life, put a lot of money aside for his or her COLLEGE education.
Yes , it should take a COMMUNITY to raise a child and to protect it . We need to replace what once existed : the EXTENDED family . Not too long ago the Chinese people had the right idea. And they also respected old age.
Modern China is now almost brain dead in recalling the better, more humane ideals of its " communist " past. What kind of UTOPIA does unlimited growth and a filthy HEALTH HAZARD environment bring to the Chinese families raising a million " emperor sons " ?
Hopefully the return to real SOCIALIST ideals will end pernicious PROGRESS for centuries. Nature and humanity must have deep time to recover.
As a democratic INDEPENDENT socialist I would like to wish ALL new born babies on Father's Day a happy future. But I am presently pessimistic Today Father does not know best ! ( In fact , " They know not what they do ! ") .
