Natural disasters like the present Hurricane flooding catastrophe in Houston, Texas - another Katrina for working class people there ? - should sober the foolish rhetoric against BIG GOVERNMENT and shame right wing voices clamoring for more-and-more tax relief.
The main purpose for amassing a " social surplus " - since way back in ancient times - is to protect the " community " from natural disasters : floods, earthquakes, famines, plagues. The WE triumphs over individual selfishness - so characteristic of the capitalist economic system.
