This is a copy scan of a Central High School , Providence , Rhode Island student newspaper of year 1941 ( June 12 ) " The Centralite " . Both my father Domenic Ruggieri and my mother( then Janet Engley ) were in this ominous year 1941 graduating class. Headline : " 357 Graduates Will Receive Diplomas Friday Morning at Metropolitan Theater Ceremonies " .
MESSAGE : " IF failure has been our lot ,we must nor allows ourselves to be discouraged, to give up. That is not the American way. On the contrary next year we must avoid the mistakes that we through this year.We must force ourselves to renewed , sustained effort. Success can still be ours, but it is definitely our job to win it . It means work.
To our graduates go our earnest hopesfor their every success and happiness.[ MAY THEY NOT FIND THE DAYS AHEAD TOO DARK OR GLOOMY] my emphasis - and they ever prove themselves to be true , loyal Americans proud of their country, their home, their school.
Onle last thought . Centralites, your Principal nowextends to all of you his cordial wishes for a safe, happy, healthful vacation . T . FRANKLIN WALSH ( Central High principal ).
Note on page 4 of " The Centralite " is a picture of " Senior Class Officers " : Domenic Ruggieri is " Treasurer " . Funny ! His future wife , our dear mother, then Janet Engley , after nine kids and Pop's long career as a Rhode Island " pioneer " radio announcer, would judge him just a cut above " bread winner " even with all his passionate fan mail . Well with both Mom and Pop's cooking, in our California Ave. days, we did eat quite well. The editor in chief of " The Centralite " , Mario De Orchis, a future prominent lawyer, was Pop's close school buddy and a rival for Janet Engley's heart. Mario's section on page 2 is titled : " To the Class of June , 1941 :
I will print Mario Enzo De Orchis words to his graduating class in a separate post.
