I fail to understand the IDEA of this comment below : "I think we can all agree the schools need to incorporate financial education all throughout high school. " The root of poverty is not the failure of our public school system to inculcate" Horatio Alger " values in working class kids or seriously " underprivileged " kids. However , no thriving home prosperity is necessary to teach kids the FUNDAMENTALS of life long learning. I read that public school teachers, for example, are still obtuse on the importance of PHONICS : introducing kids to the sound symbol system of the English language. To be sure , English is not nearly as phonetic as Spanish , Italian , or even French. No teacher in some public school in Italy , for example, would think of using our silly LOOK & SAY method to teach beginning literacy in Italian. But still English is not CHINESE ! Way back in early 60s the much maligned New Math taught me how to reason logically about seemingly brainless Arithmetic methods for decimal placement when adding , subtracting , multiplying , dividing. That math LOGIC then carried over into Algebra, Geometry , Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus. Famous astronomer Carl Sagan observed how public schools kill what Albert Einstein called " holy curiosity" by the 6th grade. Rote learning and regimented instruction ( THE TEST as the Moloch god almighty crushing the spirits of less than gifted young students) . Also , to what degree does toxic WOKE propaganda demoralize the academic ambition even of the brighter students ? WHITE RACISM explains all of American History ? Or the white male Patriarchy explains the seemingly eternal oppression of women ? As Karl Marx said long ago : " The ruling ideas are the ideas of the ruling class ". Only a democratic socialist society can counter insidious CAPITALIST ideology in the public schools. Read a book that might be titled : " Why Johnny Will Never Be Rich " .
