Washington Park reverie circa 1962

In a reverie of my early years when my family lived in Washington Park , Providence , Rhode Island ( address 315 California Ave ) I located an on line PROVIDENCE DIRECTORY for the year 1962. In a flash I had a memory of many families listed on that street. Some readers might remember the rather notorious but popular radio talk show host " Steve White ". His program provocatively named " The Steve White Flight " . When Steve was a young man he would talk to my father standing outside of the screened in porch ( Pop's radio name " Don Rogers " WEAN , Providence ) about his interest in a radio career. I recall Steve worked as an usher at the nearby Palace Cinema. Steve's family lived down the street at 256 California Ave. But the family name was spelled " WIGHT " ( phone number 461-6377 ) . The Ruggieri Family phone number ( we still remember it ! ) was 461-5807. ( add HOPKINS ) I can imagine a Twilight Zone episode ( more like " Peggy Sue Got Married " or better Thornton Wilder's " Our Town " ) where I call that phone number from an antique phone booth and MOM answers as if it were still 1962 . THINKING : " Ma , so many years have passed . But we all remember the LOVE in that home " . FADE TO WONDERFUL TWILIGHT !
