While Warren is deified " socialist " Bernie Sanders is vilified and misunderstood :
[ Bernie Sanders campaigned for the Socialist Workers Party in the 1980 and 1984 presidential campaigns and was investigated by the FBI for his ties to the Marxist group.
Sanders has always played down the extent of his involvement with the party, which included radicals who praised the Soviet Union and Cuban communists, and has denied ever being a member. Asked in 1988 about his role as an SWP elector in 1980, he said: "I was asked to put my name on the ballot and I did, that’s true." In fact, his ties to the party are deep and enduring.

This is nothing less than old fashioned McCarthyism era red baiting with the J.Edgar Hoover FBI stamp of approval.
As I myself was a presidential elector for the Socialist Workers Party here in Rhode Island back in 1980 ( and in 1976 ) I know what it involves : One needed only be sympathetic to a third party's ballot rights .
My young friend Ron Marshall and I were also presidential electors for the American Communist Party back in 1972 , I recall . Of course , this was duly noted by local conservative newspapers.
The local Communist Party leader in Rhode Island at that time was the very honorable John Hovan . Mr. Hovan ( reported in a Providence Journal article ) was honored shortly before his death by the government of Spain for his heroic service in the Spanish Civil War fighting the fascist Franco .
Ernest Hemingway wrote about this civil war in " For Whom the Bells Toll ".
Today the American Socialist Workers Party is not what it was back in 1976 when Peter Camejo was their presidential candidate. The American Communist Party could not survive the collapse of the old Soviet Union.
Today I remain an INDEPENDENT Christian Socialist . Let Bernie Sanders speak for himself . I did vote for him in the Rhode Island presidential primary in 2016.
Peter Camejo was Ralph Nader's choice for vice president in Green Party in 2000.
The disputes among the socialist Left are best decided by the great tradition of FREE SPEECH and FREE THOUGHT in Western Civilization.
Can any real socialist survive in the Democratic Party ? Bernie thinks so . I don't.
