Doris Lessing's " The Temptation of Jack Orkney "

I was profoundly impressed by two stories in the Doris Lessing collection : " An Old Woman and Her Cat " and " The Temptation of Jack Orkney ". The tragedy of homelessness is still well depicted in " Old Woman " ( so much preventable misery even in capitalist society ) and the tragedy of " socialist " solutions and the vacuous futility of sectarian Left political parties that never go anywhere is brilliantly depicted in " Jack Orkney " . Imagine any self-respecting socialist leader " tempted " by some transcendent , late in middle age , faith in God !
It has been years since I have been so moved by any works of fiction. I can understand why Doris Lessing finally won a Nobel Prize for Literature .
