A willingness to serve the U.S. War Machine is no character recommendation for anybody - not even desperate " illegal " immigrants. The unprecedented wave of migrants is well explained by " The Arrogance of Power " of American imperialism -which has destabilized the Middle East and long ago grabbed huge chunks of Mexico while Abraham Lincoln was protesting Mr. Polk's War.
Rather than idealize the War Machine we should at least begin to junk it with a sardonic " Thank You For Your Service " .
Do not our Memorial Days mostly honor WAR ? If the ghosts of dead veterans could speak, they would sound more like Dalton Trumbo's " Johnny " in " Johnny Got His Gun " .
