I remain a registered Democrat in Rhode Island. I am not hopelessly
hostile to local Democratic politicians. But on the national level I
agree with Ralph Nader on the two party system.
I don't think Bernie can push Hillary any more to the left than we can push Bernie to a bolder " democratic socialism ". I don't see Hillary as " evil " - just way too compromised for me to vote for her in November. I did vote for Bill Clinton twice.
I would like to see a revival of New Deal type " liberalism " in the Democratic Party. This neo-Democrat " identity politics " is becoming insufferable. It clearly tends to de-emphasize economic " class ".
I am not mad at people who will vote for Hillary Clinton for fear of the right-wing demagogue Donald Trump.
On the national level I would be very inclined to vote for Jill Stein , the presidential candidate of the Green Party.
The political system here makes third parties seem not serious -or even ridiculous. Perhaps I am daydreaming when I think about the Democratic Party " evolving " into the equivalent of the British Labor Party.
But all human institutions are " plastic " and " organic ". Life is full of surprise.
