Lincoln Chafee deserves more respect

 

  I  thought Lincoln Chafee's " quixotic " campaign for president was no joking matter from the beginning. The U.S. ruling class is eagerly looking for any excuse for a new war. Every few weeks yet another " despicable enemy " is reported in the major news media. Yet another " top terrorist leader " is literally vaporized in some Orwellian " 1984 " manner. The Republican Congress is clearly more eager for war than for peace with Iran ( or with China, Russia, North Korea ... or even Venezuela !       Lincoln Chafee just a joke ?  )
By his repeated references to the Iraq War folly- to the Big Lie about super sinister " weapons of mass destruction " hidden there- Lincoln Chafee stands out as the most consistent ANTI-WAR voice among the presidential candidates of either party.
And hardly any " viable " candidate for the U.S. presidency ever opposes the state or federal death penalty.
To be sure, Lincoln Chafee has not charmed right wing talk radio here, nor the not so liberal Providence Journal. But is he not a genuine " profile in courage " ?
And why all the ignorant smirks about his favoring the metric system in the United States ? The stubborn rejection of it has been at least indirectly responsible for a few NASA disasters. And it probably causes confusion in American industry and hospitals every day.
Among " lesser evil" candidates I favor " socialist " Democrat Bernie Sanders of Vermont. But Lincoln Chafee deserves more respect.

War mongers weep for the unborn ?

  An adequate national health care plan should make this shady political organization superfluous. In a capitalist drunk society MONEY finds a way to be made even in non-profit organizations led by corrupt , greedy, heartless officials-like the charming Planned Parenthood lady in the film.
But the Republican campaign against Planned Parenthood reeks of hypocrisy. Ayn Rand fans weep for the unborn ? War mongers weep for the unborn ? Lovers of the death penalty weep for the unborn ? RIGHT TO LIFE haters of " socialized medicine " ?
For the Democrats Harpy Hillary does not weep for the unborn . As president she will discover that Iran has weapons of mass destruction-and to hell with all those Iranian babies too.

Fear of ISIS will cure " socialist " Pope ?

    As a democratic Socialist I am a critical supporter of Catholic social philosophy and an uncritical believer in Catholic " mysticism "( which never rejects modern science ) Pope Francis is absolutely right to condemn the social recklessness of free market capitalism. The Church has always condemned the violent " politics " of terrorism. So how will capitalist Donald Trump scare Pope Francis with ISIS ? Has nobody noticed that none of these Islamic terrorist groups have a quarrel with capitalism? I read that ISIS itself is nothing less than a terrorist BUSINESS ( with the imagined blessing of Allah ).
I suspect that just a few decades ago before the collapse of the Soviet Union millions of " angry young men " in the Middle East would have been studying Karl Marx and Vladimir Lenin or Chairman Mao.
" The Donald " does get a few things right. Both he and Bernie Sanders would agree that the American Dream is dead.
It is also refreshing that Trump insists that he is a believing Christian in a Republican Party poisoned by the militant atheism of Ayn Rand and her cultist " Virtue of Selfishness ".
By the way, what does " Catholic " Jeb Bush have in common with the Church's social philosophy ? He has no problem with stupid imperialist wars and the death penalty . He does have a strange RIGHT TO LIFE stand against national health care.
I like Bernie ! ( He is a Jew critical of Israel ).
