I have followed a lot of the so-called "new atheists," and they are no more caustic or cynical of organized religion than any of the many famous atheists of the past. The people who call today's more outspoken atheists "militant" or a "cult" do so simply because they engage in open debates with Christian public figures. But video and social media and mainstream media provide a platform for making such debates possible, in a way that was not possible in earlier times.
