A day in Rzeszow, Poland - Normal life next door to war [ Behind those obscure words and proper names in the dictionary ]
While browsing my American Heritage Dictionary I had the thought- epiphany that behind even the most obscure and barely pronounceable words, including place names and proper names, in this " Wörterbuch " is a rich association- hardly boring. My eye fell on the place name " RZESZOW " and I typed it into YouTube SEARCH . I was right . And remember ALL these obscure words and proper nouns are dear to some people. Also people and places LOVE the sound of their own names . So please pronounce correctly . The dictionary is a big help here.
NOTE :
[The Polish town of Rzeszów is pronounced "ZHESH-oof". The first syllable is stressed, the "rz" sound is like the "s" in "measure" but with a curled tongue, and the "sz" is a "sh" sound with a curled tongue. The stress is on the first syllable, and the final "w" sound is similar to an English "f". ]
