Surely, they've played a role in the death of history as a subject worthy of study. The subject is hardly taught anywhere. They are as thoroughly postmodern and self-referential as every other academic institution. If all hitherto history is the history of class struggle, where is history taught? The closest you get to it are government press releases which is what largely the newspapers report. The SEP may be rushing to defend something that doesn't really exist.
