" A Walker in the City " passing through the Providence Train Station
Before visiting the Providence Public Library which itself has a magnificent classic architecture I pass through the Providence Train Station which always gives me the eerie " stranger in the big city " feeling. Still " A Walker in the City " always taking in the sights , sounds , smells, the sad human " grotesques " . Looking up at colossal buildings like the abandoned , haunted looking " Superman Building ".
[ " What Anderson means becomes clearer as we get acquainted with his grotesques in Winesburg, for each character is in some way deformed, sometimes physically but always psychologically — a caricature of what he might have been." ] Review of " Winesburg , Ohio " by Sherwood Anderson .
